About the Author
Theo van den Hout is Professor of Hittite and Anatolian Languages at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago, and editor-in-chief of the Chicago Hittite Dictionary (CHD) since 2000. Besides his work on the dictionary his current personal interests focus on ancient record management and early literacy in Hittite society. He has over twenty years of experience teaching Hittite and other Anatolian languages at the Universities of Amsterdam and Chicago.

Fun book with a few minor errors

I'm enjoying working through van den Hout's Hittite introduction very much. The only thing negative I could possibly say about it is the following:
1. Some of the transcription conventions he uses are a bit odd (using e instead of i in certain places).
2. Inconsistency in bound transcription (should prefer n=aš and n=uš over n(u)=aš, etc.).
3. There was a -mi verb given as a -hi verb in Chapter 2 (don't quite recall which verb it was, but his lemma differed from Friedrich's).
4. The hand-copies of cuneiform that are reproduced here are a bit low-resolution and hard to read.

Excellent book! It was useful in and out of class. Very pedagogical! Now we are working on other Hittite texts and the book is our best reference source.
