Excellent for ESL

I'm a new ESL teacher, teaching beginning English speakers. This book is an excellent resource, very systematic and organized with excellent progression of topics, explaining in baby steps, then providing work sheets. It's excellent for ESL teachers and students.

Excellent for ESL Grammar (mine has a CD for student listening ;-)

I have been teaching ESL in many forms to many nationalities since '94. In all of that time there are several books that I swear by (& not at ;-) for helping me & my students - this is one of them.
This is very specific & to the point, good examples & I rarely find errors. I have a CD in my copy of the book, it is really useful for the student to be able to listen to it & learn from it, whether I am available or not.

My other ESL 'go to' books are; OPD / Oxford Picture Dictionary 9780194700597, Year in the life of an ESL student 9781604945348 (best I've found for idioms), Clear Grammar (the whole series of 4 sets of book + workbook) 9780472032419, & this one - Basic Grammar.

So far, after many years of trial & error, these are the nucleus of my ESL teaching library. I would also caution anyone to ensure the student adds an excellent physical bilingual dictionary - not just use the online dictionaries. I push the student to learn some online - especially sound, but also ensure (through questioning, essays & example) that they learn independent vocabulary & can utilize that vocab knowledgeably in essays, etc.

Absolutely Invaluable

As an ESL/EFL teacher, I have found the entire Grammar In Use series to be extraordinarily helpful. If a student is having trouble with a specific grammatical issue, I often steer them toward specific pages in these books. The grammar is well presented without being so thorough as to bog a student down with too much information. The structure of the book is excellent: grammar information on one page, grammar exercises using that information on the very next page, repeat.

For this price, you can't really go wrong.

About the Author
David Patterson is Hillel Feinberg Chair in Holocaust Studies at the University of Texas, Dallas. He has also taught at the University of Memphis, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Oregon. He is the author of numerous books, including, most recently, Sounding the Depths of the Soul (2009), Jewish-Christian Dialogue: Drawing Honey from the Rock (with Alan L. Berger, 2008), and Overcoming Alienation: A Kabbalistic Reflection on the Five Levels of the Soul (2008). His writings have also appeared in many journals and anthologies on philosophy, literature, Judaism, the Holocaust and education.

Great Historical Picture of Past Events.

The younger the student the better this book is for them. Many of us older people can remember many of this events as actural News Paper/Radio/Television stories in our daily lives. My children do not have any idea the pain and suffering our fathers'/mothers' had to endure. This is a great book for all young or old because it is good to remember.

The Bible comes with a concordance and 15 colour maps. The text has pronunciation marks for names and the words of Christ on earth are printed in red. In this edition, the goatskin cover is edge-lined, giving the Bible superb suppleness and flexibility. It is printed on India paper with art-gilt edges and has a presentation page and two ribbon markers.

Cambridge Cameo KJV Reference Edition Black Goatskin

The Cambridge Cameo is a revision of the older classic Cameo. The original Cameo, which began production in the 1920s, had been unavailable for a while. Due to popular demand it was recently reissued, and it's even better than before.

Even though I expected to be impressed, I was still surprised by this Bible. I was very impressed with both its size and its quality. The Cameo has all of the features you expect in the larger Bibles. The Cambridge Cameo is both big and small at the same time. It has an 8-point font in a binding that is slightly smaller than 5x7 inches. For its size, I did not expect full features such as a concordance, center-column references, maps, and two ribbons. There are four models. I reviewed the goatskin. Here is a short list of features of the model I reviewed:

* 2 ribbon markers
* Art-gilt edges (goatskin and brown calfskin only)
* Concordance
* Center-column references
* Translation notes
* Goat-skin (also available in imitation leather, calfsplit, and brown calfskin)
* Leather inside binding (goatskin only)

* 8-point semi-bold font
* Pronouncing text
* Red-letter
* 7.5x5 inches
* Sewn

The main differences from the other models are the cover and gilt edges. The calfsplit model includes the Apocrypha.

Text
The Cameo uses a semi-bold Petit Medieval Clarendon 8-point font. The type is bold enough to read easily. It has pronunciation marks to help you pronounce names and places. The font is the same size as the Concord Wide-margin. For the size of this Bible I did not expect the type to be this large or this easy to read. My 40+ year-old eyes had no problems reading the Cameo text.

Red Letter
They really mean it. This red letter is really `red'. I like it. Only the words of Christ on Earth are in red, so the red letter stops after Acts chapter 1. I prefer red-letter to continue through Revelation, but it isn't a deal-breaker. The red-letter is about the nicest I've seen.

Paper
The Cameo uses an opaque India paper. The paper is not too thin like most of the study Bibles in my library. The ghosting from the other side of the page is very faint, which is much better than I had hoped.

References and Notes
In a Bible this small I didn't expect to see that many references, but this Bible doesn't skimp at all. There is a center column reference that also includes Hebrew and Greek translation notes. I like translation notes in KJV Bibles and I'm really glad to see the notes in the Cameo.

Concordance
In a Bible this size I didn't expect to see a concordance at all, let alone a concordance this vast. It has 137 pages. The concordance is the same concordance in the Cambridge KJV Concord Wide Margin.

Binding
The binding is sewn. This allows the Bible to stay open and lay flat.

Cover
This model is goatskin, but it also comes in brown calfskin, calfsplit, and imitation leather. The goatskin is very soft and feels good to the touch. It's very flexible. I was able to twist and contort it with no problems at all. For those that like flexible covers, the goatskin delivers. I'm sure all of the covers are nice, but I really like the goatskin.

Maps
The Cameo has the same 15 maps as the Concord Wide-margin. There is also a nice index to the maps, making it easy to find what you're looking for.

The Cameo has an amazing guarantee. Like all Cambridge Bibles, the Cameo is unconditionally guaranteed for life against defective materials or workmanship of any kind. With quality of this caliber, the Cameo is sure to last a life-time.

Conclusion
I am thoroughly wowed by the Cameo. This is a fine `carry with me' reading Bible. It excels at being easy to carry and handle, and the text doesn't suffer from its size. It's the perfect blend of small size, readable text, and high quality. For its size and weight I can't imagine a better Bible. The Cambridge Cameo is one of the best made Bibles I've seen. I can't find anything that I would like to see changed in the Cameo. The Cambridge Cameo is back and it means to please.

KJV Cameo Goatskin

I was so excited to get this bible. I am very picky, so I was aware that I may be disappointed in some way. Well let me tell you, it met or exceeded my expectations! The goatskin is absolutely soft and buttery. It melts in you hands. I just felt of it and opened it up. I just can't get over how truly soft it feels. It is lined with leather as well. It measures 7.5X 5.25X 1.25, perfect for carrying anywhere. The font size is 8 and is very dark, as well as dark red words of Christ. It is not real small print, but I wouldn't want it any smaller for my main reading bible. This production does not have a dictionary only a concordance. The pages are the normal thin paper but good quality. I thought the gold over red edges would bother me, but it really adds a nice touch. The inside cover is folded in and stitched (very nice), there is a few spots that want to flip up a little but not a big deal to me. The bible is warrantied for defects, so if it ever became an issue then I would let them fix it. WOW! All in all it is a super cool bible, one that I will enjoy for as Im alive. Do yourself a favor, enjoy God's Holy Word in this real nice bible.

Amazing Bible

I have always wanted to get my hands on a Cambridge Cameo. It had been out of print for a few years, so short of paying $150-200 on Ebay, they were hard to come by. This bible looks pretty sharp. I like the spine bands and Cambridge didn't over do it with imprinting on the spine. The calfskin has a slight grain to it, but feels smooth. It has an interesting feel to it, very soft. I imagine that it will show scratches quite easily with use, but that will give it a great look. This bible measures roughly 5x7 inches. This makes it a great size for carrying to church or reading when you're away from a desk. This bible is well constructed. My favorite thing about it is how it almost snaps open. The sewn binding allows it to open flat from Genesis to Revelation as well. The cover is lined with a vinyl type material. I would prefer a leather lining, but that would drive the price up significantly. Now, to the most important feature of the Cambridge Cameo Bible, the text block. Obviously, people love the Cameo for it's size. I also love the font. It is an excellent thick and bold 8 pt font. This makes it read as easily as a 9-10 pt font while keeping this as a hand size bible. The words of Jesus are in red in the New Testament. I would prefer black text all the way through, but as it is, this is a dark red that doesn't affect legibility.I highly recommend this bible. The craftsmanship is excellent. The convenient size combined with a extraordianarly legible text make this one of the best options available in bibles these days.

In her archival research she uncovers many important manuscript sources. This book is an important contribution to the rediscovery of the writings and culture of the Catholic community and will be of great interest to scholars of early modern literature, history and theology.

About the Author
K. F. Riley read mathematics at the University of Cambridge and proceeded to a Ph.D. there in theoretical and experimental nuclear physics. He became a Research Associate in elementary particle physics at Brookhaven, and then, having taken up a lectureship at the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, continued this research at the Rutherford Laboratory and Stanford; in particular he was involved in the experimental discovery of a number of the early baryonic resonances. As well as having been Senior Tutor at Clare College, where he has taught physics and mathematics for over 40 years, he has served on many committees concerned with the teaching and examining of these subjects at all levels of tertiary and undergraduate education. He is also one of the authors of 200 Puzzling Physics Problems.

M. P. Hobson read natural sciences at the University of Cambridge, specialising in theoretical physics, and remained at the Cavendish Laboratory to complete a Ph.D. in the physics of star-formation. As a Research Fellow at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and subsequently an Advanced Fellow of the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council, he developed an interest in cosmology, and in particular in the study of fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background. He was involved in the first detection of these fluctuations using a ground-based interferometer. Currently a University Reader at the Cavendish Laboratory, his research interests include both theoretical and observational aspects of cosmology, and he is the principal author of General Relativity: An Introduction for Physicists. He is also a Director of Studies in Natural Sciences at Trinity Hall and enjoys an active role in the teaching of undergraduate physics and mathematics.

About the Author
Don A. Moore is Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior and Theory at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. His research interests include bargaining and negotiation, decision making and decision-making biases, and environmental issues in management. Professor Moore's research has appeared in Organization Behavior and Human Decision Processes, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, the Journal of Applied Psychology, the Journal of Legal Studies, the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, and the Annual Review of Psychology. He has received awards for both research and teaching.

Colin F. Camerer is Rea A. and Lela G. Axline Professor of Business Economics at the California Institute of Technology. He is the author of "Behavioral Game Theory "(Princeton). George Loewenstein is Professor of Economics and Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University. Matthew Rabin, Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, received the John Bates Clark Medal of the American Economics Association for 2001.

Max H. Bazerman is the Jesse Isidor Straus Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. He is the author and coauthor of many books, including Negotiation Genius.
